“An incredibly big challenge and inspiring task of becoming a theater manager and artistic leader of Sweden's national theater arts scene. I look forward to working with all the extremely competent staff at Dramaten and together try to create relevant, attractive and amazing performing arts for our time, "says Mattias Andersson, incoming theater director Dramaten in a press release from Dramaten.

“I look forward to working with Mattias. The mission, to develop the preconditions for theater art, for artists, other teams and collaborators on the Dramaten and the audience, is urgent, challenging and important, "says Dramaten's CEO Maria Groop Russel.

Shaken by crisis

In August, a new ensemble leader, Ulla Lidholm, was also appointed, who took office in early September.

During the year, Dramaten was shaken by a crisis and former Chief Eirik Stubø left his post in April 2019. After SVT documentary Josefin Nilsson, Love me for who I am sent, sharp criticism was directed at Stubø when Nilsson's former boyfriend worked at Dramaten. The boyfriend was convicted of assault by Josefin Nilsson in the 90s.

“The massive awareness of the Dramaten and work environment issues in recent weeks has affected many and has been stressful for the entire business. And I have realized in recent days that I do not have enough confidence in enough staff, "Eirik Stubø wrote in connection with his departure.
