In a bizarre incident, a young Ukrainian married his 81-year-old cousin so he would not have to join the army.

Alexander Kondratiuk, 24, said he had a strong relationship with his 57-year-old cousin, and denied he had married her only to evade military service.

The Recruitment Act obliges all men to serve in the army, with exceptions granted for medical reasons, and can also be avoided when a sick or disabled wife is needed.

Kondratiuk was relieved of the need to join the army when he married his cousin, where he highlighted the marriage certificate and said his new wife was disabled.
The wedding took place in a small village near Vinnytsia, Ukraine.
