The podcast Svenska Rån was launched in 2019, and is a sister pod to Swedish murder stories, which the Cultural News in our review has been able to put up with several plagiarism. So far, Svenska Rån has come out with fourteen sections where each part deals with a known robbery. As the Cultural News goes through three sections of the podcast, we find examples of plagiarism in all.

Reads aloud from blog

In total, it's been almost eight minutes where host Sebastian Krantz read aloud from a private blog. And just as in the case of Swedish murder stories, this is Anders Svensson's blog about Swedish criminal history.

In the podcast's section on the robbery in Högdalen, there is a sequence of over five minutes that is almost identical to Anders Svensson's blog post about the same event.

"It is strange that people do not even know basic rules about copyright and publishing," writes Anders Svensson in a text message to the Cultural News.

Sebastian Krantz says that they should contact the authors whose material they have plagiarism.

- We have already started such contact. Among other things with Anders Svensson. We will also contact other copyright holders and talk to them and together we will try to find good solutions to this, he tells Culture News

Bauer Media denies liability

Radio giant Bauer Media distributes both Swedish Murder Stories and Swedish Robbery. They establish agreements with the advertisers in the podcasts and are responsible publishers on the respective podcast's website. Bauer Media releases a wide range of popular podcasts, and also owns major radio stations such as NRJ and Mix Megapol.

But the company believes that they have no responsibility for the plagiarism. This is what the company's Group marketing director, Jakob Gravestam, writes in an e-mail to the Cultural News. He also believes that the information on the responsible publisher website does not match, but instead refers to Sebastian Krantz.

“We are not responsible publisher for the podium Swedish Murder Stories. We have a dialogue with Dabozzi Media and Sebastian Krantz who publish that podcast. We have, in consultation with them, unpublished two sections and Dabozzi Media investigates if the problem occurs in more sections, writes Jakob Gravestam, Group marketing director at Bauer media, in an e-mail to the Culture News, and continues:

“We partner with a number of companies who publish podcasts through our platform and the responsibility for content lies with those who publish the podcast. We at Bauer Media work daily to find out errors or shortcomings in the podcasts that are published via our platform in dialogue with our partners. When something goes wrong, we unpublish the relevant sections. "

The publisher cancels the sale and the advertiser jumps off

Following the review of Swedish murder stories, several actors with links to the podcast and book reacted strongly: The book publisher Bookmark announced during the day that they will suspend all distribution of the book so far. Akademibokhandelnken and Bokus are lifting the book from their assortment, and the company Com Hem jumps off as advertiser for the podcast.

Sebastian Krantz is the author of the book Swedish Murder Stories and program leader for both the podcast of the same name and the sister podcast Svenska Rån. He has full understanding that the book is being withdrawn.

- It's really boring when it gets that way. I have a full understanding that you have to do so to overcome what has happened before you know how to proceed, he says.

Regarding the advertiser who now ends his participation, he also sees this as a tedious development.

- It's really boring when it gets that way. Then I understand at the same time, but it's sad, says Sebastian Krantz.
