The head of a multinational company that runs a student residence in Christchurch, where a young man died and stayed for nearly two months before his body was discovered, said the question "How did we forget him?" Chasing him.

John Schroeder, managing director of the Campus Living Group, told the media on Thursday that the company owes the student, who has not yet been identified, and his family "to make sure that we have accurately disclosed what happened."

He said, according to the site "Stave" news: "If something needs to change in the way we manage our services, we will do so."

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, Cheryl de la Rey, said the university apologized to the student's family and pledged that he would not leave any question unanswered.

On Wednesday, the university announced an independent investigation into how it happened and what actions to take.

"Despite existing comprehensive pastoral care programs, it is inconceivable for us to imagine how these conditions can occur," de la Rey said in a statement.

He added: "We understand that it is now under criminal investigation and we respect the wishes of the family at this time not to make further comments."

The body of the young man was discovered on Monday evening after his classmates complained about a strange smell. He was not officially identified by police. The cause of death remains unknown.
