Nearly three-quarters of Syrian migrants living in Germany wholly or partly receive unemployment benefits, official statistics show.

Statistics released by the employment agency for August showed that 74.9% of Syrians of employment age are in this group.

The unemployment rate among Syrians was 44.2% last June, more than five percentage points lower than last year.

The unemployment rate does not include people who take language or integration courses. Those on low wages that are insufficient to meet their basic needs can receive unemployment benefits.

Statistics showed that 43% of Afghans receive unemployment benefits, and the unemployment rate among Afghan refugees reached 26% last May.
