Impressive details and aesthetics of microorganisms, not seen by the naked eye, documented by the lens of Emirati photographer Yusuf Al Habashi in his “The Invisible” exhibition, which was inaugurated by Saif Saeed Ghobash, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Tourism.

The day before yesterday, he organized the photography studio in Manarat Al Saadiyat, in cooperation with «Nikon» and the magazine «National Geographic Arabia». The exhibition, which runs until October 28, reveals features of a world still hidden from us many of its secrets, a world of insects that sought Abyssinian, through 27 close-up photographs included in the exhibition, to highlight amazing details, perhaps one can not expect its existence while watching The insects themselves are naked, using a modern technique of macro photography, the adjacent fox technique, to highlight how these microorganisms are positioned, and their distinctive features and details in color, shape and size.

Al-Habashi, who has more than nine years of experience in the field of macro photography, shows new experiences through his large-scale images to highlight the formations of certain types of insects, such as beetles and other structures that differ in their bearing. The protrusions and protruding of the horns, the shapes they take and the jaws they hold, are considered defensive and offensive weapons used by the insect in the struggle for survival.

The exhibition also sheds light on the defensive techniques and means used by these creatures in rare close-up scenes, as the filming of the «macro» requires lengthy scientific research, and the preparation of specific techniques, and up to the post-processing and final editing of the image, which can be controlled in different ways .

Stuffed insects

The exhibition, which was inaugurated by the Secretary General of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award, Ali Khalifa Bin Thaleth, the Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic Arabia, Saad Al Menhali, and a crowd interested in photography, along with enlarged photographs, also featured a group of insects. The mummy, of different shapes, colors and sizes, was displayed in small glass windows in a way that shows details of each, belonging to different countries around the world, and represents study samples that can be used by students studying biology to conduct their studies on them, he explained. Also, a corner of the exhibition was designed to allow visitors to interact with its content and test the insect photography experience, through cameras placed in front of glass pools with a number of insects.

New technology

After the opening of the invisible, Yousef Al-Habashi said that the universe includes micro-organisms that modern science is still looking at its secrets. He pointed out that he used in this exhibition a new technique called "contiguous fox" to reveal the details of insects clearly and accurately.

He added that he participated in many exhibitions before, the most recent of which was «Exposure» in Sharjah, and that his pictures are not limited to the world of insects, he has on his personal account on «Instagram» many works dealing with different fields. As for his plans in the coming period, Al-Habashi revealed that he seeks to provide more work in the same field, with different methods and techniques, such as the implementation of abstract works at high magnification rates, which contributes to open doors for a different vision that leaves room for the recipient to understand and translate according to his own view.

He considered that the field of imaging insects includes great challenges and difficulties, including the need for the availability of modern equipment and techniques, the difficulty of taking the picture at the right moment without shaking the camera, in addition to the accuracy and small size of insects.

Special line

For his part, the Secretary General of the Hamdan bin Mohammed International Photography Award, Ali Khalifa bin third, expressed his pride and happiness at the exhibition, describing him as an honor for all UAE photographers, and came in time to reveal the fruit of the work of a distinguished photographer and artist. He added: «Yusuf Al-Habashi through his work that he is a photographer serious and diligent and very ambitious, and since the beginning of his career was distinguished by his own line, and great ambition and goals different from other photographers on the scene, also has an organized work agenda, and knows very well what to show and when and for whom. “During this exhibition he confirms that he has a lot to offer in the field of photography.”
