HONG KONG (Reuters) - French "Spider-Man" climbed a 68-storey skyscraper in Hong Kong on Sunday to raise a banner symbolizing reconciliation between China and the city amid mounting protests for weeks that show no sign of abating.

Robert climbed the Choeng Kong Center building in the downtown business district, relying only on his hands and placing a large banner on the front of the building.

The flag bears the Chinese flag on its left side and the Hong Kong flag on its right side, with a yellow hand shaking a red hand against a white background in a sign of peace.

It was the third time Robert climbed the skyscraper owned by Choeng Kong Holdings. He was banned from climbing buildings in the city for a year last August and the ban ended two weeks ago. Robert, dressed in bright scarlet, pink and green, was arrested by police after climbing the skyscraper and taken to a nearby police station.

Robert usually climbs without a permit and has been arrested several times, some for infringement of property.

Robert's climbing of the skyscraper comes amid expectations of more pro-democracy protests. China has likened the protests to terrorism and warned it might use force to suppress them.
