The Sultan Bin Zayed Center for University Students has launched the Sultan bin Zayed Poetry Competition for University Students, which aims at challenging young people and challenging them from university students in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University, Khalifa University, Technology Colleges And the Rabdan Academy. The winners will be announced and honored at a ceremony in November at the University of Abu Dhabi.

Deputy Director General of the Sultan bin Zayed Center, Dr. Obaid Ali Rashid Al Mansouri, said that the competition is one of the initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support the poetry movement in the UAE, Gulf countries and the Arab world. He pointed out that the competition comes in the context of His Highness's keenness on the status and value of poetry as an authentic heritage, and his interest in the formation of a creative and successful generation, keen to continue what the parents and grandparents began, cares about his heritage and belongs to his identity and community.

Terms and Conditions

The general supervisor of the competition, poet Ayda bin Masood, that there are a lot of poetic talents in the state, but there are shortcomings in the disclosure of these talents and the opportunity to appear. Pointing out that «the competition reflects the attention of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed poetry and poets, and continue the march of popular poetry in particular, which is a great favor on the poetic scene».

He reviewed the rules of the poetry contest and how to participate in it and its objectives and theme, pointing out that the most important conditions of the competition is to discuss the poem participation tolerance, and be special to the competition has not been published or participate in any other competition, and be up to the technical conditions for popular poetry from Where the weight and integrity of the rhyme and the unity of content, and not less than the number of verses of the poem about eight verses, and not more than 15 houses. It is also mentioned that the participation is available for students up to the age of 35 years and for all nationalities. Bin Masoud pointed out that the competition aims to devote attention to the popular heritage of the new generation, and to use popular poetry to raise awareness among the generation, create a positive competition among poets to show their poetic creations and introduce the role of Sultan Bin Zayed Cultural Center. Explaining that the focus of the contest on popular poetry is due to its strong link with the UAE heritage. He said that holding the competition annually depends on the extent of the response of the first session, and it can expand to include more universities in the country, poetry and folk poetry as well.

Ayda bin Masoud explained that the first prize for the competition is worth 50 thousand dirhams, and the second prize is 25 thousand dirhams, while the winner of the third prize gets 20 thousand dirhams. He pointed out that the Sultan Bin Zayed Center will announce the awards and award winners a booklet containing the winning poems, along with a selection of the most important poems in the competition to highlight the media and academic attention to the talents that participated.
