Brain apps and brain jogging tasks are today a billion dollar market. Many people hope to improve their memory. This is understandable: For those who maintain their brain health over many years, today protects against forgetfulness and may even reduce the risk of dementia in the future.

The problem: The long-term effectiveness of these often very simple and redundant exercises has not been proved so far. Extensive meta-studies on various brain trainings, for example from the University of Illinos, hardly substantiate long-term effects.

Instead of training individual, narrow-minded abilities, the memory care should be integrated into all areas of life, says the cognitive psychologist Hans Markowitsch: "The gray cells can be strengthened on the physical, cognitive, social and emotional levels." For this to succeed, you only need a single training tool: your own everyday life. Conducting a profound conversation with others, reading a book, going for a swim - all of this can permanently protect or even improve your memory.

Together with the team of SPIEGEL WISSEN, Hans Markowitsch has therefore developed a coaching with which you train your ability to remember through small changes and challenges in everyday life. Over a period of ten weeks, each week we will introduce you to a simple exercise that will teach you to work, relationships, and spare time to get the gray cells on their toes. In addition, you will get tips on how to eat healthy brain and exercise in serenity and confidence - because even strengthen the memory.
