Already since April, a dolphin about two meters long in the mouth of the Schwentine drives around, which is why he already got the nickname "Schwenteeny" missed by fans. Because marine mammals often appear between the sea fish market and the harbor steamer bridge, more and more photographers and whale watchers are coming there.

The animal behaves a bit conspicuous, said a spokesman for the water police in Kiel. "It always swims in a circle." From the water, a kayak driver also watched the dolphin on Tuesday afternoon. He let him: "I have the feeling he is becoming more and more trusting," the man said.

A Kiel photographer posted a picture, which according to his statement "Schwenteeny" is to be seen.

Dolphin in Kiel? Does anyone know if he has a name? , , He has been swimming in Kiel since April and now I also had the opportunity to take a photo of him. A great experience and especially not easy to catch him in just the right moment. But with a lot of patience, I was able to increase my chances for this moment of happiness a little and so I managed to capture him in a photo. Or better: to wait long enough for me to jump into the picture. I am so happy that he presented himself so beautiful for that second. He is still here. But those who have not seen him yet should hurry. Presumably he will move on with the herring swarms. Dolphins have been in Kiel before, to be precise the smaller bottlenose dolphins. This one belongs to the genus of the "common defin" (Delphinus delfis). , , Thanks to @justanotherpic_photography for a little hint. As long as the animal finds enough food, according to marine biologists, it will also stay in the fjord. With the beginning of the Kieler Woche in June, it should be even too much for even this so trusting dolphin with the hustle and bustle.

Back in 2016, a dolphin named Freddy entertained tourists and locals for a whole summer. Because curious people went swimming in a lock area near the Kiel Canal to get very close to the animal, the water police had to issue a warning. Bathing near locks is prohibited.

Common dolphins like "Schwenteeny" are found in many regions of the world. They exist in the Mediterranean, the Northeast Atlantic and the Pacific. In the waters around Europe, this species is the most common dolphin species, but it rarely lives near the coast.

Why the marine mammals get lost again and again in the Baltic Sea is not clear. Some experts assume that simply the reporting system has improved and the dolphins are seen more often in this way, but actually are not there more often than before. Other scientists suspect that rising water temperatures lure the animals to the Baltic Sea.
