While fleeing a police check, an 18-year-old driver was fatally injured in Cologne. A police patrol had wanted to stop the young man at night because of a broken low beam. The 18-year-old has given gas, as the officials in front of him driving the turn on "Please Follow" turned on, the police said.

At a railway crossing in the Niehl district, the fugitive had driven over a red traffic light and had lost control of his car shortly thereafter at a junction. He came off the road, rammed a stone wall and was trapped in the car.

The fire department was able to free the injured person from the wreck. Shortly thereafter, the 18-year-old died of his injuries at the accident site. According to police later found out that the stolen license plate was attached to the unauthorized car of the young man.

According to the police, the distance to the accident between the pursuing patrol car and the car of the 18-year-old was about 300 meters. There was no further detention attempt by the officials before the accident.
