The volcano Soputan on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi erupted on Sunday morning. Above the volcano formed a nearly three kilometer high ash cloud, communicated the civil defense authority. Initially, a restricted zone was established within four kilometers of the 1758 meter high Soputan. At the beginning of October, the volcano had thrown ash up miles for miles.

The island of Sulawesi, popular with holidaymakers, was hit by a major earthquake and tsunami in late September. It killed more than 2,000 people.
