In real life, the happy ending often comes late, very late. As for the Kevin Hart movie with the cryptic German title "My Best and Me". This sounds presumably so strange, because the rental wanted to avoid referring to the French original on which the film is based - and then it could not leave. That means "Pretty best friends" and was with nine million viewers in Germany one of the biggest hits of recent years.

The title of the remake is originally "The Upside", and the project has a long, unfortunate story behind it: First, the shooting start, originally planned for 2012, was delayed until 2017; then the finished film went on the shelf as the producing Weinstein Company went bankrupt. And just as new lenders had found their way to a US launch in January, the next blow came: Lead actor Kevin Hart quit his job as the presenter of the Oscar night because he initially did not want to apologize for homophobic gags and tweets.

"Ziemich best friends" remake:

Actually, the comedy about a rich white paraplegic and his black groom should have been done, especially since the US critics did not leave a good hair on her. Surprisingly, she still played in the US, more than $ 94 million. A happy ending, then. But that's not the reason for the good mood. After all, this rarely unsympathetic and uninspired attempt at a comedy really did not deserve the full prize.

The work of director Neil Burger and screenwriter Jon Hartmere does not even succeed in convincing at least that it was narrative necessary. To add or put in a new light "The Upside" has nothing. Its existence extends this film solely for commercial reasons.

Stale champagne

Although you could even ignore it, the remake would not fail, especially where it would at least score: the entertainment value. If you imagine "Pretty best friends" in French as glass with sparkling champagne, "The Upside" is the version of it, after the glass stood on the kitchen table for one night: bland, sweetish, sticky.

The creators have essentially changed nothing in the original story. Again, the black groom, who is here called Dell, is responsible for providing the downtrodden, rich and white melancholic (Bryan Cranston) with a new zest for life. Presumably, the directors of "Pretty best friends" tirelessly stressed that it was a true story to take the imbalance of this actually oppressive constellation.

The racial stereotypes of the French original largely take over "The Upside" without questioning them. Only at first Dell says he is nobody's servant and will not work on any plantation. This completes the topic.

Of course it is not. Structural racism is unspoken in both film versions. Omar Sy, the main character from "Pretty best friends", was allowed to make fun of his character at least about the culture of white snobs, while Kevin Harts Dell also has to discover affirmatively classical music for himself. Obviously, in both films is an aggressive sexism, which sees in women especially objects that may raise real guys. Quite naturally, the workplace becomes a hunting ground with suggestive remarks.

Fight with the high-tech shower

The main reason why "The Upside" does not work has a name: Kevin Hart. The crazy thing about "Pretty best friends" was that Omar Sy played the doubt on the wall with disarming humor, a broad grin and world-warming warmth. Hard, on the other hand, is tumb, without any charisma. The highlight of his comedy is the fight with a (German) high-tech shower, and not even this scene is successful.

At this point, one may ask again what the Academy had ever ridden to select Hart as the moderator for the Academy Awards. His previous appearances at awards were finally damn questionable. At the Golden Globes 2015 he was on stage with Salma Hayek and made a joke about her golden globes . Yes, he really meant her breasts.

If the Harts was pretty good gag, Academy and spectators may be relieved that the gala will take place this year without a presenter.
