Four people died after storms in southern Italy. The men were killed near the Calabrian city of Crotone by a landslide when they wanted to repair a broken pipe, reported Italian news agencies on Sunday, citing the police.

The dead are a local entrepreneur and three workers. The line had broken because of the storm, whereupon the four men went to work. The earth masses had slipped into the sewers where the men were working. They had no chance to escape and suffocate.

Currently, a bad weather front is pulling over Italy. Civil protection had issued a severe weather warning to large parts of the country, including Tuscany, Umbria, Veneto, Calabria and Sicily, with severe thunderstorms. In early October, a bridge on the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia collapsed after heavy rains. A woman died.
