The Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Center, Dr. Assem Mansour, that Jordan ranks the first Arab and third globally in terms of rates of smokers, according to the Jordanian news agency "Petra".

"These shocking facts dictate the serious consequences of tobacco addiction, the threat of various age groups and public health, and the depletion of the state treasury in the treatment of people with smoking-related illnesses," said Mansour, opening a training program to treat tobacco addiction.

At the opening of the program, which was attended by representatives of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Qatar, Oman and Morocco, the Center is keen to combat tobacco addiction, which is linked to cancer, heart disease and chronic diseases.

He stressed the importance of addressing this health disaster, which threatens the society in all its sectors, and emphasizing the educational role in educating students and youth about the importance of avoiding tobacco in all its forms.
