A US Coast Guard officer was arrested on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack, judicial documents showed.

The police found weapons and ammunition in the house of the officer, "Christopher Paul Hasson" in the suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Hason, who describes himself as a "white nationalist," has set a list of goals that include prominent Democratic politicians, according to investigators.

He said he was inspired by the Norwegian "Anders Brevik" who committed a massacre, which killed 77 people, mostly young people, in a summer camp in 2011.

"The accused intended to assassinate innocent civilians, on a large scale we are rarely seen in this country," investigator Robert Hor said in court documents.
