Scientists have provided new evidence to answer an old question about why there are lines on the zebra's body, where it turns out that these lines aim to mislead the insect of vampire horses that feed on the blood of this species of animals and transmit deadly diseases.

The researchers pointed to experiments that revealed that the flies had difficulty landing on the zebra while landing easily on the bodies of horses of one color. In one experiment, researchers put caps on the bodies of horses and noted that fewer flies stood in comparison to the number that fell on the bodies of the same horses when scientists put one-color covers on them.
