Japan has begun to charge everyone who leaves the country worth $ 9, a measure aimed at raising funds to promote tourism.

The international tourism tax includes all persons regardless of nationality - from business to tourists over 2 years - and the tax will be added to the price of the flight ticket.

The government wants to use the estimated $ 460 million it will generate from additional tax revenues to improve tourism infrastructure.

It is estimated that more than 30 million foreigners visited Japan in 2018, a new record, thanks to the steady flow of tourists from Asia, especially China, South Korea and Taiwan.

Japan is not the only country to impose a tax on tourists.

Australia, China, Costa Rica, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico and Sweden.
