In New York, motorists were stuck for hours after accidents in the snow on the George Washington Bridge, which leads across the Hudson River from New York to New Jersey. More than 8,200 flights were delayed across the country, according to CNN, and over 1900 have been canceled.

According to media reports in the winter storms, at least eight people have died in the east and south of the US. Tens of thousands have been cut off from the power supply, CNN reported.

On Saturday, the snowfall in the northeast of the US should subside, but a new cold front is expected on Sunday in the New England states.

While drought and forest fires kept civil protection afloat in the extreme west of the US, up to 30 centimeters of snow fell in the east on Friday. Freezing rain turned roads into slides. There were deaths in traffic accidents in the states of Ohio, Mississippi, Indiana and Arkansas.

The New York Times reported anger on the part of the citizens because of the crisis management of the New York authorities. At Central Park, New York, the highest snowfall of 16.25 centimeters was measured in one year in 136 years on a single November day.
