The German "macht" initiative warned what it called "a silent killer hiding between household appliances," from using indoor or garage grills to avoid the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The initiative recommends the use of charcoal grills or even gas in open spaces, and even after use should not put the grill inside.

The initiative indicated that carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and odorless gas, and is not felt for humans; it is therefore called the "silent killer". This gas is not only released from grills or camping gas stoves, but may also result from heater, gas heaters, open fireplaces and a gas stove. The inhalation of carbon monoxide may cause a high concentration of death. For further indoor protection, a carbon monoxide detector and a smoke detector can be used, taking into consideration the height of the head. The carbon monoxide detector can release its warnings at an early stage before poisoning.
