A man died in the explosion of a ticket machine on a S-Bahn station in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt. The detonation was so violent that the door of the device was flung across the platform, the police said.

A train driver noticed the lifeless young man lying bleeding beside the ruined ticket machine and dialed the emergency call. The rescue workers took the seriously injured victim to the hospital on Saturday night. There, the man died a little later, it said.

Experts from the police searched for traces at S-Bahn station Halle Südstadt until late at night. Even a helicopter of the Federal Police circled in the air. The question of whether the man has caused the explosion or is an uninvolved victim, the investigators could not initially clarify. There were no trains rolling on the station on Saturday night.
