This is stated on the website of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.

“On January 22, the cameraman of the Central Documentary Film Studio, Honored Artist of Russia, our friend and remarkable person Valery Nikonov, passed away,” the organization said.

It is noted that in recent years he has struggled with an unnamed disease, while being on the artificial respiration apparatus.

According to TASS, during his career, Nikonov captured on camera the visit to the USSR by British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1985 and the visit by Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Helmut Kohl in 1983, and also shot more than 100 documentaries.

Farewell to Nikonov will be held in the ritual hall of the Central Clinical Hospital (CDB) on January 25.
