Owner of an insalubrious apartment in Marseille, a vice-president of the metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence resigned Saturday from his duties in the wake of the disaster of the rue d'Aubagne.

"I accepted today the resignation presented by Mr. Bernard Jacquier, 20th Vice-President of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis, delegate for the Public Order and the Tender Board" , said Martine Vassal , the LR president of the metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence, in a statement.

This resignation follows the disaster of the rue d'Aubagne which killed eight people in the collapse of two buildings on November 5th.

Owner of an unsanitary apartment

The elected representative, lawyer in real estate law by profession, is the owner of an insalubrious apartment in the Belle-de-Mai, in the northern districts of Marseille, according to the newspaper La Marseillaise which revealed the case. The housing hit an order of insalubrity since April 4, 2017, had seen its tenants evacuated a year ago. In the columns of La Marseillaise, Bernard Jacquier defends himself, stating that the housing is in the process of sale: "I signed a compromise in August, the notarial act will intervene shortly ".

The president of the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur, Renaud Muselier, had already made the decision Thursday to suspend two vice-presidents of their function after the catastrophe of November 5th. The measure was aimed at Xavier Cachard, the owner of an apartment in one of the collapsed buildings, and the deputy mayor of Marseille in charge of housing and urban renewal, Arlette Fructus.
