Eleven dead at stop on synagogue in Pittsburgh

It was not until October 28, 2018, that a man shot and killed eleven people in an anti-Semitic attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh. The act caused horror well beyond the borders of the United States. The oldest casualty of the attack, 97-year-old Rose Mallinger, was buried on Friday as the last casualty in the industrial city in the northeastern United States.

The 46-year-old alleged gunman, Robert Bowers of Pittsburgh, had entered the Tree of Life synagogue armed with an assault rifle and at least three guns on Sabbath day, opening the fire during a naming ceremony for a baby.

Among the six injured was Mallinger's 61-year-old daughter. Bowers is said to be the author of a series of anti-Semitic messages on the online network Gab.com. This is popular with white nationalists and members of the racist Alt-Right movement.
