They increase reliably from year to year: With a new record in the number of overnight stays, Germany's tourism has also closed the year 2018. In the year as a whole, the number of overnight stays in hotels, guesthouses and campsites is expected to reach a record 477 million, the Federal Statistical Office announced on Monday. According to calculations of the Wiesbaden authority, this would be an increase of four percent on the previous year based on the figures up to and including November.

From January through to November 2018, the number of overnight stays has already increased by 4 percent year-on-year to 447.9 million. The month with the most nights was July.

In November 2018, hotels and guesthouses in Germany recorded 31 million overnight stays by domestic and foreign guests, five percent more than in the same month last year. Travelers from abroad saw a plus of four percent to 5.7 million overnight stays, while domestic guests saw an increase of five percent to 25.3 million. Accommodated in the statistics are accommodation establishments with at least ten beds.
