"I feel like I woke up in the candy store for actors," says director John Carney about the cast of his series "Modern Love." In addition to Anne Hathaway, he was able to sign up for his project Dev Patel ("Slumdog Millionaire"), Tina Fey ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), Catherine Keener, Olivia Cooke, Julia Garner and Shea Wigham.

"Modern Love" is based on a column of the same name and a podcast of the New York Times. According to Amazon, it is also in the series about love in all its complicated manifestations, including sexual, platonic, romantic and family love.

Eight half-hour episodes are planned, each telling a complete story. Carney, who previously directed the love and music film "Once," will write, produce, and direct the series on several episodes. The actress Emmy Rossum ("Shameless") is also to stage a sequel.

The New York Times, where the column has been published for 14 years, will produce the series. For the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke, she is part of a new strategy to produce more content for women. In this context, Salke also announced that work is already underway on a new project for Rachel Brosnahan, the lead actress of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Brosnahan plays in "Mrs. Maisel" a housewife who discovers her talent as a comedian.
