At Philippe Vandel Sunday, the director of culture and live entertainment at France Televisions explains why "The Great Chessboard" has returned to France 2.

On December 20, 2018, Le Grand Échiquier was back on France 2, hosted by Anne-Sophie Lapix. Nearly 30 years after the last issue presented by Jacques Chancel, the mythical program came back to life. At Philippe Vandel Sunday, the director of culture and live entertainment at France Télévisions, Michel Field, discusses the future of the show.

"It is a meeting place between artists of totally different universes". Three hours of culture, live, at a prime time. This is the challenge of France 2 with the return of the Grand Échiquier . Tuesday, March 26, the second issue of the show, now worn by Anne-Sophie Lapix, will be broadcast including Laurent Gerra, Renaud Capuçon or Angela. "It's a meeting place for artists from totally different worlds," says Michel Field. "When we bring young rappers, we confront classical musicians, we give a message of friction of culture, we try to open up the classical culture," he says.

"The numbers of the first were good". According to the director of culture and entertainment living at France Televisions, the return of the Grand Échiquier testifies to "the desire to find a kind of emblem". "Even people who do not know exactly what Le Grand Échiquier knows, the word equals a public service ambition," says Michel Field. "The numbers of the first were good, it was absolutely average box (2 million viewers, ed )," says the man of television. A number three is already planned.
