At Popocatépetl in the Mexican state of Puebla, a four-kilometer high smoke column has risen. This was announced by civil defense on Twitter. The ash-laden cloud had been blown to the north-east. The National Center for Catastrophe Protection (CENAPRED) showed on Twitter the way that the ash cloud will presumably take.

The volcano about 88 kilometers southeast of the capital is always active, also smoke and ash clouds are not uncommon. The civil defense called on the population to stay away from the Popocatépetl within a radius of twelve kilometers.

At 9:06 pm on Tuesday night, the authorities reported the eruption that was reportedly heard in social media in surrounding communities. The warning level remained unchanged thereafter.
