MEP Eric Andrieu (PS) has appealed to the European Commission, Tuesday, November 6, to ask the ban metam sodium, now banned in France, in all countries of the European Union.

On Tuesday 6 November, MEP Eric Andrieu (PS) sent a written question to the European Commission.

It calls on the EU executive to immediately ban metam sodium, an active ingredient incorporated in plant protection products, to disinfect soils before planting vegetable crops.

This request follows the decision of the National Agency for Food Safety, Environment and Labor (ANSES) to withdraw Marketing Authorizations (MAs) for all phytosanitary products based on metamines. -sodium.

Attention to distortions of competition

The MEP believes that "this decision of the French authorities may have consequences in terms of distortion of competition within the internal market for French farmers, especially producers of lambs."

Eric Andrieu asks "the ban without delay of all derogations relative to metam-sodium to ensure a standardization of the precautionary principle at the European level for all 500 million citizens."
