Eight people died on November 5 in the collapse of adjoining buildings in the Noailles district, in downtown Marseille. A third building collapsed after them.

More than 1,100 people were taken shelter and 142 buildings evacuated in Marseilles since November 5, date of the collapse of several buildings causing the death of eight people, announced Monday the municipality.

In a statement, the mayor of Marseille said that of these 142 buildings evacuated, 48 are located in the perimeter of the rue d'Aubagne where the collapse occurred.

More than 400 reports of unhealthy buildings in 15 days

A total of 1,105 people were pre-emptively secured, including 857 housed in 17 hotels in the municipality. Since November 5, 416 reports of unhealthy buildings have been processed or are being processed by municipal services.

The mayor (Republicans) of the city, Jean-Claude Gaudin, whose resignation was demanded by thousands of demonstrators during a "march of anger" , took twelve orders of danger over the same period.
