This is the first French destination to visit this year according to the New York Times: the American newspaper unveiled Wednesday its 2019 ranking of 52 places to see in the world, and Lyon is the first city in France to appear in the 36th place, Lyon Capitale.

"Foot, sausages and fresh air". The capital of Gaul can boast ahead of cities like Los Angeles and Hong Kong. The New York Times summarizes Lyon in three terms: "football, sausages and fresh air". The Groupama Stadium will host the final of the Women's World Cup next July 7 ... where the Americans may well win their fourth title, notes the NYT .

But if "you hate football", writes the newspaper in French, the city "and its 4,000 restaurants are also worth visiting", while will notably soon open the City of gastronomy. And to "eliminate the plates of pork sausages", the NYT finally recommends a hike in the Ecrins National Park, located not far in the Alps.

Marseille ranked 39th. Only other French city to appear in the annual ranking of the New York Times : Marseille. The Phocaean city, which is 39th out of 52, is particularly recommended for its bars and restaurants.

The podium is held by Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, Hampi in India, and Santa Barbara in California.
