Kiel Regional Court has sentenced two men to several years' imprisonment for a spectacular million-euro robbery. Nevertheless, the driver of a money-carrier and his accomplice are for the time being again on the loose.

The court imposed imprisonment of three years and ten months against the driver. The sentence against his accomplice was set at three years and three months in prison. For the time being, the Grand Criminal Court suspended the execution of the arrest warrants against the two men. However, they have to report to the police twice a week and hand in their ID cards.

The 41-year-old driver and his 48-year-old accomplice had previously been handcuffed into the hall. In view of the conditions and the stable private circumstances of the defendants, the judges estimated the danger of flight to be very low. Both live in Hamburg and are family fathers. An immediate complaint from the prosecutor dismissed the chamber.

The defendants were in custody since March. The district court saw it as proven that the two men at the beginning of January during a tour from Hamburg to Kiel reloaded around 2.4 million euros cash from the cashier to another vehicle.

About 92,000 euros in damages

The loot was seized with the exception of 87,000 euros in March with the perpetrators and returned to the security company. Both men had previously been under surveillance for weeks.

The court's verdict was well below the prosecutor's request for six years for the driver and five years and nine months for the co-defendant. The prosecutor now wants to review. The defense had demanded suspended sentences for embezzlement.

According to the judgment, the men of the security firm now have to pay about 92,000 euros in damages. However, the court attributed the company a clear complicity in the offense: It had made it easy for the defendants, said the chairman Judge Michael Scheck. For example, the "Bundesbank mode" was not activated as prescribed, which would have made it impossible to open the tailgate unnoticed. In addition, the driver would have had to be better controlled, because the company already determined against him in another context.
