Former English footballer Paul Gascoigne has been charged with sexual harassment. The 51-year-old must answer in court, because he has a woman in a train "by touching sexually harassed," said a spokeswoman for the British traffic police.

As reported by several media, including the Guardian, the attack is said to have taken place on 20 August on a train from York to Durham. The police arrested Gascoigne at Durham station. He is due to appear on court on 11 December on suspicion of sexual assault.

This is not the first time that Gascoigne has had to go to court. In August 2013, a court in London fined him. The former football star had to pay a fine of 1000 pounds for attacking a security guard.

Gascoigne has been suffering from alcoholism and depression for years. In his autobiography published in 2008 he reported suicidal thoughts.

He was one of the best footballers in the world in the 1990s. Gascoigne played for the English national team and for many major clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio Rome and the Glasgow Rangers. In 2004 he ended his career.
