As of March 31, 2019, the contractual relationship with editor-in-chief Klaus Brinkbäumer will be terminated. Until then, he will remain connected to the house as an author. It came to a mutual agreement between the 51-year-old journalist and the SPIEGEL-Verlag.

The SPIEGEL publishing house thanks Klaus Brinkbäumer for his passionate commitment over the past 25 years, in which he has made the mark through his work in crisis areas, numerous cover stories and award-winning reports.

Under Klaus Brinkbäumer's leadership, outstanding stories such as "Das Kartell" and "Schulz-Story" or cover pictures like the award-winning "America First" were created. It is thanks to Klaus Brinkbäumer that the mirror has been visually renewed and the Investigative Network EIC founded. His merits for the digital payment offer SPIEGEL Plus should also be emphasized.

In the future, Steffen Klusmann, Barbara Hans and Ullrich Fichtner will form the new editors-in-chief of the SPIEGEL Group.
