US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania enter the race for the "Golden Raspberry" as the worst actor. In the political documentary "Fahrenheit 11/9" by Michael Moore, the two appear as protagonists. Moore deals in the film with the rise of Trump and the consequences of his election victory for the United States. (Read the criticism of SPIEGEL ONLINE here).

The year 2018 is a year full of disasters - on the cinema screens and in real life, it was said in a statement by the initiator of the "Golden Raspberry", John Wilson. It was, inter alia, a year of impending impeachment of the President. Thus, the award should also be understood as a political statement. Already in 2005, then President George W. Bush received a "Golden Raspberry" from Michael Moore for his presence in "Fahrenheit 9/11".

Trump was also nominated for his appearance in the political documentary "Death of a Nation" for a "Razzie". In 1991, he received the mocking trophy for his appearance in Ghosts Can not Do It, which was created as a counterpart to the Academy Awards. The film is a quirky mix of romance, thrill, fantasy and comedy and flopped. Trump was a real estate entrepreneur at the time and plays himself in the movie.

Six nominations for "Holmes and Watson"

This year, too, the Sherlock Holmes comedy "Holmes and Watson" has to worry about six equal categories. Nominees include Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly for their title roles because "they are pulling two of the most popular characters in literature to the dust," the organizers said. Also the mafia biopic "Gotti" with John Travolta is nominated for six "razzies".

Traditionally, the organizers announce the nominations one day before those for the Oscars. The Golden Raspberries will be awarded this year on the 23rd of February, one day after the Oscars will be awarded.

Four razzies went to "Emoji - Der Film" last year, making it the first time in the 38-year history of the ridicule award for an animated film. The erotic film "Fifty Shades of Gray - Dangerous Love" received two disgraceful awards: for Kim Basinger as a Supporting Actress and as the worst sequel.
