Hypertension, a disease that has been steadily increasing in recent years, affects about one in three adults. But beware, it should not be supported in the same way for men and women. This is the message of the French cardiologists who have just met at a congress in Paris. On the occasion of the 38th day of high blood pressure, they have just presented new specific recommendations to better detect and treat women who suffer from this disease.

Specific symptoms. The first advice for cardiologists is first and foremost screening for hypertension. It is systematic at three periods of women's lives - more specifically their hormonal life - that is, at the beginning of contraception, for their pregnancy and then at menopause.

Then, they explain that in women, the symptoms of excessive tension are specific (headaches, dizziness, tiredness or buzzing ears) and must be reminiscent of hypertension.

"The risk flies away in the 5 years following the end of the rules". Finally, there is a period particularly at risk for women, just before menopause, says Claire Mounier-Vehier, president of the French Federation of Cardiology: "it is around 45 years, a period where the hygiene of life is fundamental, and that it is necessary to put back in place if it is not the case: to stop smoking, to lose some kilos, not to eat salty .High blood pressure, what it is necessary to understand well is that it is a disease of the environment, a hormonal disease. The risk flies in the 5 years following the end of the rules ".

After menopause, doctors had previously avoided prescribing hormone replacement therapy for hypertensive women. Well it's over, now those who have a lot of hot flashes, in particular, may have, case by case all the same, if they do not have too much overweight and for example a history of heart.
