Hamburg: 70-year-old fails with armed bank robbery

An armed 70-year-old robbed a bank in Hamburg. The man was arrested when he tried to escape by bicycle.

A 70-year-old from Hamburg has failed with an armed bank robbery. The man was arrested on Thursday evening immediately after his attack on a savings bank branch on a street in the district of St. George, the police said on Friday.

A witness, by chance, called attending officers' attention to the man as he left the bank. The senior had, according to the investigators, a bike with it, he apparently wanted to flee.

According to police, the man had come to the branch with a firearm around 6 pm and threatened three employees. Afterwards he had fled with a four-digit amount of money. The two policemen who arrested him found the loot and the pistol with him. It was reportedly a sharp weapon.
