In the Frankfurt district of Griesheim there was an incident in an industrial park in the early morning: a truck loaded with a liquid chemical has fallen over. As the industrial park announced, it came shortly after 4 clock to "a substance outlet in a tank container." The fire department reported that hydrochloric acid vapors leaked out of a container.

As a precautionary warning sirens were triggered in Griesheim and the adjacent district Nied, as a police spokesman said on Tuesday. The residents were asked to keep doors and windows closed. This is a standard procedure, it was said. The population was warned according to the industrial park because of a "possible health risk".

After initial measurements on the site and in the area but there is no measurable material leakage, said the police spokesman. According to the fire department, further measurements are currently taking place in the vicinity of the industrial park. "Since the warning is currently unchanged, the sirens were triggered again," said the fire department. Contrary to other reports, a danger to the population can not be ruled out.

The two districts were closed to traffic. This also affects public transport. On Twitter, the fire department also published a map with the area affected by the warning.

The plant fire brigades Griesheim and Höchst as well as the Frankfurt fire brigade are on site to prevent the material from escaping from the truck.
