Because of software problems at the German air traffic control (DFS) Lufthansa wants to cancel 22 flights on Monday at the Frankfurt airport. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman on Monday morning. The company had already announced on Sunday evening that alone at Lufthansa at Germany's largest airport a total of 2000 passengers were affected. According to data from the airport operator Fraport, 35 flights are scheduled to be canceled on Monday with almost 1400 aircraft movements scheduled.
A software problem with air traffic controllers has been restricting aviation traffic over many parts of Germany for days. However, the safety of aviation was not endangered, stressed the DFS. Already since Wednesday evening the national company has reduced the traffic volume for airspace by a quarter, which is controlled from Langen near Frankfurt.
The software concerned provides the pilots with all data relevant to the flight history of each flight, according to earlier DFS specifications. These are, for example, type of aircraft, route and expected fly-by time. The other security systems would be fully available and the other air traffic control centers would not be affected for other airspace.
