Dubai was chosen for the third time to be among 100 cities around the world celebrating the initiative of design day in the most famous cities of the world, and most of the planning for the future.

This year's event was held under the theme "Internet of Things", with the participation of Professor Carlo Rati, the renowned Italian architect and eminent designer of the Italian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, and an official ambassador to the UAE. He delivered a keynote lecture on "Design and City of the Future" American University of Dubai (AUD).

The Italian Design Day initiative was launched in 2016 to highlight innovation and the foundations of Italian design for the international audience. This initiative reinforces the importance of strong interrelationships between economic, cultural and scientific diplomacy thanks to the active participation of prominent figures in the design sector.

As director of the Sensible City laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and co-founder of the Carlo Ratti Foundation for Design and Innovation Practices, Professor Ratti is a leading figure in the debate on the impact of new technologies on urban life. His works have been exhibited in many places around the world, including the Venice Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Science Museum in London, and the Design Museum of Barcelona.

Two of his projects - the Digital Water Wing and the Copenhagen Wheel - have been named "The Best of the Year" by Time magazine. He was also listed in the magazine "Wired" in the list of "Top 50 eminent personalities make a difference in the world." He is currently Co-Chair of the World Future Council on Cities and Urbanization of the World Economic Forum and Special Advisor on Urban Innovation at the European Commission.

Professor Ratti addressed these issues by taking part in today's event through an important perspective through the projects of Sensible City, a research initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Carlo Ratti Design Office.
