China's telecommunications giant Huawei said on Thursday it had sued the US government for challenging a law banning government agencies from using the company's products because of security concerns.

The law signed by US President Donald Trump "is not only illegal, but also restricts Huawei's ability to enter into fair competition, ultimately harming American consumers," said Guo Ping, chairman of the company.
The suit was filed in a district court in Plano, Texas.
Guo said the United States "has repeatedly failed to provide any evidence supporting its restrictions on Huawei's products ... and we have been forced to take this legal action as a last resort and appropriate."
The tensions over Huawei have added to the tension over US-China relations over the past few months as the two countries wage a protracted trade war.
