Pop band The 1975 has been honored as Best National Band and Best Album ("A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships") at this year's Brit Awards in London. Best artist was Jorja Smith, best artist George Ezra.

Ezra was happy about his first Brit. "That's an incredible honor," he enthused on Wednesday, "that's the icing on the cake!" Singer and songwriter Smith, who has long been a star in the UK, almost took the language. "That's for all of us, for all the little girls," stammered the 21-year-old.

The mood in the not quite filled 02 Arena remained subdued - the evening had been "conspicuously inconspicuous", summed up the "Independent". Actor Hugh Jackman sang "The Greatest Show" at the opening, but she did not want to be part of it.

As in previous years, many US stars had saved the journey. Ariana Grande ("Best International Artist"), Drake ("Best International Artist") and Beyoncé and Jay-Z ("Best International Band") each sent only short video messages.

The DJ Calvin Harris was also allowed to win two prizes - finally, after having been nominated 14 times before, without ever having been awarded. And at least in the end there was still some mood, as Pink, who received the honorary prize, brought the audience to a romp with a ten-minute show.
