Following allegations of sexual misconduct and manipulation against US musician Ryan Adams, the release of his new album "Big Colors" has been halted for the time being. The background is a report in the New York Times, in which seven women accuse him, among other things, controlling behavior, including Adam's ex-wife Mandy Moore.

About music Adams had exercised control and emotionally abused women, said the singer and actress Moore, according to the report. Adams had on the one hand offered career help, but then harassed women, if they did not want to respond to his sexual demands, the newspaper quoted from the allegations. In one case, Adams is said to have become congenial with an underage fan in online messages. The FBI investigate, it said.

The singer has meanwhile rejected the allegations. The newspaper report draws a "shockingly incorrect" picture. Some details are misrepresented, others are exaggerated and some are completely wrong. For example, he had never knowingly had inappropriate contact with a minor. "I'm not a perfect man and I've made many mistakes," wrote Adams. He would apologize to anyone he had "involuntarily" violated.

Adams formerly belonged to the band Whiskeytown and has been successful as a solo artist since 2000, including the full cover of Taylor Swift's eponymous album "1989". His new record "Big Colors" was released on April 19th on Ryan's own label Pax-Am. Tickets to concerts on his tour, which will take the 44-year-old to five German cities in June, were still available on Friday.
