A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck near the Kuril Islands
Seismologists recorded an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 in the Pacific Ocean near the Northern Kuriles. Interfax informs about this with reference to the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“Its epicenter was 104 km north-east of the city of Severo-Kurilsk (Paramushir island) at a depth of 140 km,” said a service representative.
According to him, the residents of Severo-Kurilsk experienced an earthquake measuring 3-4 points.
It is noted that due to the incident, the tsunami alarm was not announced.
Earlier in Kamchatka, an earthquake of magnitude 5.3.
