The Facebook-based text messaging company, Wattsb, has announced restrictions on retransmission of messages, which will be applied to all users, according to the BBC's Web site.

Watts AB has taken this step to curb the spread of false news, as it will limit the mass retransmission of messages.

A spokeswoman for Watts AB told the BBC that as of today, we would impose restrictions on sending "forward" messages, which could only be sent to a maximum of five users, "as a Watts AB user previously could Send messages to 20 individuals or groups.

Mass killings were the result of false inflammatory messages in India, prompting the authorities there to demand Watsp step to prevent the circulation of false text messages and inflammatory content.

Watts said that the Indian people are the first in the world to re-send messages, pictures and video clips through their application. India is the largest market for Watts AB with more than 200 million users.

In July, Watts Ab said in response to an appeal from India's Ministry of Technology that it was seeking a partnership with the government and society in general to curb the spread of false news across its platform and had already tested to limit the re-sending of messages that came into effect today.

Months ago, the Wattasab application adds the word "forwarded" to messages that are re-passed in order to alert the future of the message to the origin of the content it has reached.

The new restrictions will be applied to the retransmission of Wattsb messages once the new update for the app is loaded.
