  • Tuesday, August 5, two explosions in the port of Beirut, Lebanon, left at least 100 dead and 4,000 injured.
  • While Prime Minister Hassan Diab indicated that these explosions were due to the explosion of a large stock of ammonium nitrate stored in the port, several Internet users are wondering about the real causes of the disaster, in favor of a video showing a drone dropping a white object towards the ground.
  • “Lebanon: an (Israeli?) Drone was seen over the area a few seconds before the explosion! », Says the legend of this eight-second streak. It is however unrelated to the drama, since it was filmed almost a week earlier in the south of the country.

“Lebanon: an (Israeli?) Drone was seen over the area a few seconds before the explosion! Israeli planes and drones are almost every day over Lebanon, ”says the caption of this sequence viewed nearly 40,000 times.

For eight seconds, we see a drone hovering in the sky - and a second aircraft pass nearby very briefly - before releasing a small white object, which looks like a bottle, under the cries of surprise of people close to the one who immortalizes the scene.

FAKE OFF

The video was filmed in Lebanon, but about a hundred kilometers from Beirut and almost a week before these blasts - caused by the explosion of around 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in the port, according to the Lebanese Prime Minister. Hassan Diab.

These images had indeed been broadcast from July 30 on the Facebook page "Achrafieh News", which presented these drones as Israeli army devices filmed at low altitude in southern Lebanon.

The same day, the Lebanese National Information Agency also relayed this information in an article entitled "Two enemy drones fly over the region of Maryjeyoun".

Its Arabic-speaking version, more detailed, specified that these two devices had been seen near an ongoing fire in Hula, near the southern border of Lebanon, and that they had thrown a glass bottle and a small bag on the ground. , under the eyes of several witnesses.

Israeli drones are regularly seen in the Lebanese sky: numerous articles from the Lebanese National Information Agency reported them for the last week of July alone.

Israel is also one of the many countries that offered humanitarian aid to Lebanon after the Beirut port tragedy.
