“During the welding work to seal the holes through which the intruders could commit theft, the cargo stored in the warehouse in the port detonated with 2700 tons of ammonium nitrate - ammonium nitrate,” the TV channel cites the preliminary findings of law enforcement agencies.
Earlier, Lebanese consul in Russia, Rodrigue El-Khoury, in an interview with RT, commenting on the explosion in Beirut, noted that there was ammonium nitrate in the port.
On August 4, a powerful explosion took place in the Lebanese capital near the port. The Jordanian Seismological Observatory has determined that the explosion is equivalent to an earthquake of magnitude 4.5.
The authorities declared Wednesday, August 5, a day of mourning in memory of the victims of the explosion.
According to the latest data, more than 60 people died. At least 3 thousand people were injured.
