Abd al-Majid Tabun was born on November 17, 1945 in the village of “Bouasmgoun” in the municipality of Al-Mashriyah, which is affiliated to the border governorate of Naamah with Morocco.

He is of Berber origins and is influenced by the Sufi approach.

Taboun is one of the Algerian politicians affiliated with the second generation of the editorial revolution against French colonialism, and those who graduated from the "National School of Administration" in 1969, after having specialized in economics and finance, to be the first president to rule Algeria with more economic backgrounds than political or military.

He belongs politically to the "Liberation Front", which was described as "the ruler" during the era of Bouteflika, without assuming positions in it.

He also held a number of political, parliamentary and ministerial positions, during which all the presidents of Algeria were contemporary, with the exception of Ahmed Bin Bella, where he held between 1977 and 1982 the position of Secretary-General for a number of Algerian states.

Then the governor of three states from 1983 to 1989, are Tiziuzu (east) which recorded the lowest turnout in the last presidential elections, and Adrar (southern) which witnessed the largest percentage of votes in the presidential poll.

In addition to Tiaret (Gharb), before he entered the government for the first time as a delegated minister in charge of the local groups affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in 1991 in the government of Sayyid Ahmed Ghazali for one year, to go out to pre-retirement at his request, as his biography states and for unknown reasons.

Taboun then missed the scene, until the coming of Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who ruled Algeria in April 1999, to appoint him as Minister of Communication (Media) for a period of six months. .

Abdul Majeed Tabun returned to the government from the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism portal in September 2012 in the government of Abdul-Malik Sallal for a period of five years, coinciding with the government's adoption of the policy of "buying the social ladder".

He was added a portfolio of trade on behalf of him in 2017 after the death of the former minister, Bakhti Balaib.

On May 25, 2017, Bouteflika appointed him as prime minister, succeeding Sallal, to become the 17th prime minister in the history of Algeria, coinciding with the passage of 17 years of work in the Algerian regime.
