This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the vice president, head of the section of biomedical sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Vladimir Chekhonin.

He said that on the basis of the Faculty of Biology of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, under the guidance of Academician Mikhail Kirpichnikov, a prototype is being developed, "a multivalent vaccine against COVID-19, that is, one that would work against a wide range of coronaviruses, not only from the current one."

According to Chekhonin, the Shemyakin and Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, under the direction of Academician Alexander Gabibov, is developing a vaccine against COVID-19 "based on virus-like particles using the so-called recombinant fragments of coronavirus proteins."

“I cannot but note the work at the Vavilov Institute of General Genetics, led by Professor Kozlov, our largest specialist in the field of DNA vaccines,” he said.

He explained that being developed in this. Institute vaccine "carries on its surface three proteins of coronavirus, which will help to create a multivalent vaccine."

“We pay a lot of attention to this development,” he added.

Earlier it became known that the Ministry of Health of Russia will begin clinical trials of a vaccine against coronavirus infection in five to six months.

The representative of the WHO in Russia, Melita Vujnovich, in turn, said that the vaccine against coronavirus would appear no earlier than in a year.
