Spotify launches its Kids version for children under 12 - Geeko

The music streaming giant is targeting a new audience: children. Spotify is inspired by YouTube and its Kids offer. After conquering families, the music streaming service wants to further appeal to parents with an application especially intended for the youngest, Spotify Kids. The latter is also only available for Premium Family subscribers.

The application has been specially developed to stick to a young audience. It is more colorful and is closer to a “sound playground for children”. The 6,000 songs available exclude music including references to sex, drugs, violence or any other speech deemed inappropriate for young ears. The music and the 80 tracks were selected by editors from Disney and Nickelodeon to choose songs for the youngest. In addition, Spotify Kids does not present any advertising, unlike the traditional version.

Build loyalty from an early age

“Beyond the content, the user experience of Spotify Kids is different from that of the Spotify app. And it's intentional! It was designed for children, taking into account their specific cognitive capacities, and gives off a fun, familiar, playful and bright atmosphere, ”explains Spotify.

It is also a great way for the streaming service to retain a young audience who could renew their subscription when they are older.

Available for several months in certain Scandinavian countries, Spotify Kids is opening up to new markets, notably Australia and the United Kingdom. For the moment, the app is not yet available in France or in Belgium, but that should not be long.
